For fifteen years, he worked as a business executive in New York before quitting in 1992 to write full-time. in Comparative Literature from Harvard University. Dana Gioia was born in Los Angeles in 1950. Editor of The Best American Poetry 2000, she is Commonwealth Professor of English at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Her latest poetry collection, On the Bus with Rosa Parks, was published in 1999. She has received numerous literary and academic honors, among them the 1987 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry and, most recently, the 2001 Duke Ellington Lifetime Achievement Award, the 1997 Sara Lee Frontrunner Award, the 1997 Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award, the 1996 Heinz Award in the Arts and Humanities, and the 1996 National Humanities Medal. Rita Dove served as Poet Laureate of the United States and Consultant to the Library of Congress from 1993 to 1995. She lives in Santa Barbara, California, with her daughter, Cassidy. With Dana Gioia and Jack Hicks, she coedited California Poetry: From the Gold Rush to the Present. She works at the University of California and is an editor of SOLO: A Journal of Poetry.
